One of the things we’ve been interested in recently (2026) is writing tiny books that look at the recent history of psychic mediumship from a scientific standpoint. (most people have absolutely no idea that some of the great intellectual luminaries of the last 150 years spent a fair amount of their intellectual firepower on studying extraordinary experiences, and sought to prove or disprove the existence of spirits (and by extension, survival of consciousness after death) by putting well known mediums through rigorous experiments.

This research, not all that surprisingly – led to many mediums being exposed as frauds. (it also disabused many from believing they had psychic or special spiritual gifts that were later revealed to be quite ordinary artifacts of being a regular person 🙂

That said, some of the most celebrated scientists as well as skeptics and philosophers like William James, Frederick Meyers and many others became convinced, through much testing, that several of the best known mediums of this era, were in fact, doing things that were, and i’d argue, remain today, unexplained.

We’ve created a tiny work in progress map to list and display some of these mediums over the last 150 years who are no longer with us, but who have played an outsized role in, at least some slender corners of science, the legit pursuit of big questions that transcend easy explanation.

Check out the very early stage of our mediums on the map feature that covers some of the best known evidential mediums of the 19th and 20th centuries. Have a suggestion? Let us know by email – suddenlypsychic@gmail.com or via the community comments below.
