What is the Difference Between a Psychic and a Medium?

From a purely technical standpoint, a psychic is a person who claims to have extrasensory abilities to perceive information hidden from the normal senses. These gifts can include things like precognition, clairvoyance, telepathy, and other similar talents. A professional psychic (or even an amateur one! 🙂 is someone who uses that purported gift, to offer advice, provide counsel or make predictions. (either for a specific person(s) or the world at large)

A medium is a person who claims to have the ability to communicate with the dead, either by seeing, hearing, or feeling their presence. They are often described as intermediaries between the living and the dead and serve as a way to pass along messages from the deceased to the living.

As a general rule, (and this can vary a bit) a psychic may or may not have mediumistic abilities, but a medium is someone who specifically claims to have the ability to communicate with the dead.
