I turned 28 in Berlin yesterday and it was magical. This trip has had a very serendipitous feeling from the moment I got in my Uber in LA. My driver was 82 and lived in Berlin before and after the Wall went up, was separated from his girlfriend, and they never saw each other again. He tried to look her up a few years ago but couldn’t find her. Despite a life that sounded really hard to me, he had such a sunny outlook, before I got out he said ‘energy can’t be created or destroyed, and our conversation has created neural impulses which create energy. I really believe this moment won’t ever leave the world, it’ll just keep on existing somewhere on and on.’ I kind of fell in love with Joseph. I love listening to people’s stories and Berlin is full of them. It’s such an interesting city in that the government keeps its history front and center, the ever present wall, a constant presence of what was. It feels like the city carries an energy of gratitude with a mission. An energy that’s never leaving this world, in Joseph’s way. A “thank god we made it through that and it’s better now, but we’re always working on it and never complacent”. I like living life that way. I walked into the WC before leaving the restaurant yesterday and there was a giant sticker saying “wofür bist du dankbar” what are you grateful for?
And it made me teary eyed, because I’m grateful for a whole lot and 28 looks so good. You’re all a part of that in very big ways and very small ones that also make up very big ways. And I guess all those moments are luckily never leaving this world. thank you for a good year ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

How horrible to hear about the tragic passings last week of the beloved and talented Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. I’ve been thinking a lot about it as I’m often asked about suicide. There seems to be a prevailing belief that those who take their lives are stuck on the other side. I’ve never found that to be the case. Ever. In my experience, they are most definitely where everyone else is (and doing great). Yet, there remains a sadness to most of these passings. Often I believe the person that crosses over sees and realizes that this too would have passed. It has often struck me, that no matter who I’m reading for (celebrity or not), life is hard. In the 8,000 private readings or so I’ve done I have yet to sit across a single person, or connect to a single deceased person, who didn’t struggle at some point. No matter how much money, fame or a charmed life it seems someone has, I have never seen a single life that didn’t journey through layers of trauma, grief, broken hearts, or truly dark nights of the soul. I hope one day it’s more okay to talk about it, and that there is no shame in asking for help. Even more so, that if you once struggled or are struggling that you are celebrated for speaking about it. By speaking up you can help someone else find their voice. In the end, we’re all in this together, and our lives are not so separate or different from one another’s. I hope that if you are someone who is struggling that you know you’re never alone. Reach out for help, talk of your burdens, and relentlessly pursue hope knowing that you are absolutely worth it. There’s a lot of sadness in the world, but I really do believe there’s even more joy. ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less
