Is Tyler Henry, the “Hollywood Medium” a fraud?
You don’t need to be psychic to predict that every time a psychic or medium or spiritual teacher of one type or another makes it big on the silver (or small) screen, the haters, skeptics and cynics are going to come out of the woodwork, crying foul, fake and fraud in LARGE capital letters.
The truth is, there ARE in fact many fake psychics, mediums and spiritual gurus of one type or another…and some are more obvious than others. The problem, of course, with this type of article (the one below calling Tyler Henry a “fake”) is that they always begin their argument, and attack, with a fallacious and foolish claim. NO ONE, they’ll always begin, is psychic – and NEVER have psychic abilities been proven to exist. Full stop.
Of course this is 100% untrue – and there have been countless scientific studies of psychic abilities that are FAR more credible and evidential than the vast majority of skeptics, or cynics, even know…..let alone understand.
(here is a LONG list of published papers, many in peer reviewed scientific journals, on the reality of psychic experiences, abilities and tests, often in very controlled lab settings)
And invariably of course, NONE of these attack articles are by folks who have ever had personal experiences with the subject of their skepticism, they just act the part of the proverbial armchair quarterback (or critic) and lob insults and appear to understand EXACTLY what folks like John Edward, Tyler Henry and others are doing in incredible detail, even though they’ve never met them in person, or been affected or impressed personally by the evidence that they offer behind the scenes. (Claiming it’s all “cold reading” – a boring a tired trope of skeptics of all things that would appear to suggest that “spirit” exists, or that consciousness itself – something even modern neuroscience can’t explain or agree upon – couldn’t possibly be outside of the body or brain)
Do YOU believe Tyler Henry is a fake? To me, it’s almost besides the point. I happen to be impressed with Tyler – but I simply don’t know enough about him, in a personal and private way, to know if he’s as good behind the scenes, as the TV cameras would suggest. But the idea that ALL psychics are frauds, as a place to begin ANY exploration of authenticity, says more (sadly) about the skeptics and cynics who claim to know it all, than it does about those they criticize from a far.

Each episode of Hollywood Medium consists of individual readings of three or four celebrities. Henry explains that he’s being shipped off to read a celebrity client with no knowledge of who he’s going to read.
We’re repeatedly reminded that Henry doesn’t know much about pop culture or celebrities to begin with, due to his small-town upbringing. “I don’t watch much TV,” he tells his subjects, apologetically. “Tyler is just a simple kid whose idea of a good time is sitting on the porch of the family farm in Hanford and looking out at the trees,” Corbett told TV Insider.
The readings always take place on the celebrity’s turf, with a friend or associate sitting in a nearby room and watching on a monitor. The sessions last at least an hour, Henry told The Outline, and are edited into a much shorter segment, intercut with scenes from “backstage” and a confessional-style, straight-to-camera testimonial from the subject after the reading.

All “psychics” are frauds. They take advantage of emotional and gullible people.
Mediums who are only able to tell living people ‘what they already themselves know’ as opposed to new information, are likely not speaking to ‘anyone on the other side’ . That is how you spot a fake medium.

Can you give us a few examples of something that would convince you with regard to mediums who are able to offer credible, verified information that wasn’t previously known to the person being “read” – and how that might differentiate from some other form of telepathic communication with another human being (something called “super psi” that some folks studying mediums in the lab believe is happening in all of these cases – e.g. – no “dead people” are ever involved, and it’s always some form of stored information (something akin to a collective unconscious or as the famous psychic Edward Cayce called it – the “Askashic record”) We just spoke to a very smart parapsychologist who has studied mediums for a long time – for an upcoming podcast episode – who believes that the best mediums are ALL picking up information from living people – and that there is no such thing as spirit communication.
Not true ,I do a reading most times without channelling a spirit will come threw ,I’ll be touched and cold and sometimes scared not often if I’m I stop the reading , there is a story behind that one . Spirits do give images of death stuff that I don’t know ,but the clients do . But I never set out too connect with love one’s . I see spirits since I was little and orbs ,auras ,even got Dr to test me too see if I had a tumour lol I also see angels in my room .I could go on . I don’t tell people,I only help those who God sends too me . But I’m trying too try to do this more often and see how my skills can evolve , God have me a gift and I’ll help others
Hi Monique – thanks for the comment – although I’m a tad unsure, even after reading your thoughts a few times – what exactly you claiming is “untrue?”
I like your article and wanted to get to your the countless scientific studies you mention, but the link to the long list of published papers is broken. Could you fix this please? Otherwise it is easy to make such claims. Peace.
Hey Marc – good point – and I agree. (I will go back and check the link, but I believe it was to Dean Radin’s website (he is a pretty even handed scientist with many peer reviewed published scientific work) – he has (or at least had) a list of 100 or so peer reviewed articles published on the evidence for a whole range of psychic phemomena – if you Google that, i’m sure it will show up. Otherwise, in 2022 – i’d check out the most recent series of essays published by the Bigelow Institute by a whole array of scientists who provide what they believe is the best evidence of an afterlife. (the essays were part of a challenge/contest where Bigelow provided 1 million dollars in grant money to the essay voted most persuasive by a team of jurors who ostensibly, judged and rated the essays – the winners (there were a bunch) all provide much science, subjective and experimental info on the most compelling evidence for an afterlife. I remain open minded but not completely convinced (even though I manage this site 🙂 – but I do believe, that in total – there is as much evidence for psychic abilities at a miminum to make it a slam dunk if we’re being objective and honest – as for an afterlife – it’s pretty persuasive as well, although i still struggle to understand what that sort of experience would (or could) look like.
